TRISTIS

During January and February 2017 I was involved in a project to trap, ring and sound record a group of 6 overwintering chiffchaffs in Aberdeen, many of which were considered to be tristis. The same site has since held singing birds, and autumn/winter migrants since. Our study showed that most of the birds present had tristis mtDNA, and found that birds with tristis mtDNA can give hweet calls. A paper outlining the project was published as a short paper in British Birds in July 2018 (and is reproduced here).  There is also a selection of shots and recordings all taken from the Girdle Ness area
